Hi, I have been gold prospecting for many years now and it all started by my wife who gave me a gold detecting day trip out of Creswick for a birthday present. Although no gold was found on the day, the seeds of the gold bug were laid. I bought my first detector a short time later, a Minelab SD2000 and went out for a swing shortly later. Well I found my first nugget that day, a 3 gram trophy. If I wasn’t totally hooked before I definitely was now. Since that day I haven’t been as lucky with the detecting aspects of gold prospecting and started watching the gold shows on Foxtel as many people in the hobby do. I soon realised that to find more gold there is another way via sluicing, so then researching different sluicing methods came to the conclusion highbanking was the way to go.
From there I built my first highbanker and took it out to a spot that had a history of gold mining which also happened to be a favorite spot I would go camping and trout fishing. I had a bit of a pan and found some of the wonderful yellow stuff in the bottom of it so next step was running some material through the highbanker and was very happy with the results. From that first highbanker I have built a few more, refining them as it has gone along up to a point where I am happy with the end result. Then a friend asked if I could make him one also as he likes to have a bit of a prospect too, from there I built a few more selling them on a couple of internet selling sites, and I guess as they say the rest is history.
